Notes created by Doris Mollow (nee Easterling), grand daughter to John Henry and Harriet Emily.
I think she [Harriet Emily] must have died soon after the 1911 census, maybe she died of a broken heart when her son died in 1912. I have questioned my oldest brothers to see if our dad ever mentioned anything about his mom and they said no. I checked the record office, no luck, plus the cemetery records. As for Katherine Mary Quick (alias Kitty Quick), she was John Henrys house keeper and was sighted as the other woman in Harriett's divorce, and was as you know, the person in the will, and my poor dad was left nothing, for what reason we will never know, he even left his house in London to her. I have a copy of the will, it was as if my dad never existed even though he was the only living child, plus I doubt my dad ever knew about the will. Did you look to see if Harriett had a will? I also have John Henry's death certificate, his sister Alice was the witness, and Kitty Quick signed his son's as a cousin, which was not true she was not related to him. If you come up with anything else let me know and I will do the same thank you, Doris.
On the 1911 census my grandmother Harriett Emily Easterling (nee Hine) is living at, 14, Northumberland Ave, Teingmouth Devon. She was listed as 42 year old woman and single, she was also listed as a housekeeper for a man named Frederick Hooper Hill, a postman. I thought maybe they got married, so I did a search and came up with nothing. Next I searched for Mr Hooper's death found him and sent for death certificate hoping that Harriett was the informant, but no such luck, it was his brother, at the time of his death he was 52yrs in 1925, and was living at 8, Grove Terrace, Teignmouth U.D.
It is not known to me, or any of my siblings, whether he ever had any contact with his mother during those years, or any time thereafter. He never mentioned whether his mother was around. My mother did say at one time that his mother ran off with the postman, and it turns out the man she was a house keeper too was a postman, according to the 1911 census, and did live in the same town, Teignmouth, according to a map, just a few streets away from my dad. Another strange thing was in the divorce Harriett asked for her children, so why didn't she take them. This is a mystery. I doubt that my dad knew his parents were divorced.
Do you have any idea why my grand mother is not showing up on death records, everyone else is, could she have been killed in the war? I know my dad's aunt died that way it was on her death certificate that she died due to war operations. All I wish is that I could find her. I would like to know how she died and when. Do you know of anyone that could have some insight of this type of mystery? If she got killed in the war who has those records?
