The purpose of this site is to record the origins and subsequent dispersal of the modern-day Easterling families in England, and to allow present day members of this family to follow their ancestors back to the earliest known member of their line.
The origins of the modern-day Easterling families lay with two individuals who settled in England during the 18th and early 19th century respectively.
William Easterling, who was born about 1738, married Elizabeth Venn of Clyst St George, Devon, where they settled to bring up a family of seven children. The origins of William are unknown, we will endevour to discover his origins.
John Easterling, who was born in Sweden about 1787, the son of John Easterling, fisherman, settled in the St Luke’s district of London and manufactured and sold fish sauce in the local markets. He married firstly Elizabeth Waddle in 1811 and had three children. His second marriage to Ann Wilson produced a son.
How these two families dispersed over the subsequent generations may be followed by using the links to the children within each family. Likewise, one can use the parental links to trace their family back to the original founder of their line.
An earlier Easterling record appears in Plymouth with the baptism of George, son of John & Elizabeth Easterling on the 13th April 1764 at St. Andrew's Church. It is not yet been established if this family has any connection with any of the other family’s detailed so far.
The latest development in genealogical research is the use of DNA. The Easterling Family Genealogical Society (USA) has conducted tests with it’s members to try and establish their roots and origins. Several members of the English Easterling family were invited to take part in these tests to determine if there was any connection with the American Easterling families. This proved not to be the case, but we are most grateful for having the opportunity to take part in the research project. The results of the tests are displayed here.
The site has been organised by allocating families to the country, county or city where they settled, and these places are to be found within the geographical indexes at the top of each page.
Collections of research materials are provided and are to be found by using the links at the top of the page, namely Church Records and Civil Registration (GRO births, marriages and deaths). As some of this information contained is from secondary sources, original documents should be consulted to verify unconfirmed information. When a certificate has been obtained, or an original parish register entry has been checked, then the reference will be coloured GREEN.
Various people have contributed the results of their own researches to the site, and this has been acknowledged in the section named Contributors, again linked at the top of each page.
Additional information relating to any aspect of the Easterling or associated families is always welcomed and could be added to the site. This can be provided by contacting lescoe83@gmail.com any contributions will be gratefully received.
