The church of St Lawrence is an octagonal edifice of white brick built in imitation
of the chapter house at York cathedral and consecrated in 1838. The registers date
from the year 1731. The living is a rectory, net yearly value £200 with residence
in the gift of E J H Havens esq. and held since 1898 by the Rev John Moxey Easterling

Funeral of Rev. John M Easterland
Bristol Tributes to work for church
The funeral rook place yesterday of the Rev John Moxey Easterling whose death occured in his 83rd year at 1 Western Road, Horfield on Monday.
Mr Easterling held appointments in various parts of the world before becoming Rector of East Donyland in Essex. After 29 years there he returned to Bristol to live.
The funeral service, which took place at St Michael and All Angels, Bishopston, was conducted by the vicar, the Rev. D. B. Hall, assisted by the Rev. E. M. Hall (curate), the Rev. W. Ward (vicar of St Paul's, Portland Square). and the Rev. R. K. Pagett (vicar of St. Peter's, Henleaze). Mr W. E. B. Westcott was at the organ.
In a tribute to Mr Easterling, the Rev. D.B.Hall said he had done spendid work for God and for his church. He was a geat man, full of enthusiasum and the more he got to know him the more one loved him. Mr Easterling did not really retire at all, for he was always available for any church which needed his services, There were churches in all parts of the City who were thankful for his help on many occasions. Although retired he died in harness.
Mr Easterling was sincere and always chereful. He was always smiling and trying to look on tghe bright side of life.
The principal mourners included:- Mr J.A.Easterling (son), Miss Easterling (daughter), Mrs Cretin, Mr W Clatworthy, Mr G Ellis and Mr John Cockle (cousins), Mrs Baker and Mr & Mrs Roberts. Mrs Easterling (widow) Miss Aland (sister-in-law) and Mrs J.A.Easterling (daughter-in-law) were unable to be present through illness.
